After the Board of Review

These adults played a part in David's final days as a Boy Scout. From left - Michael, the Scoutmaster, Cindy - Life-to-Eagle Coordinator, and Jorn. Jorn and Cindy were panelists for the board of review.

Cindy was the guiding hand behind David's Eagle Project. David improved the property at his sister's school downtown, NotreDame School of Dallas (http://notredameschool.org/).

Michael guided David in the Scoutmaster conference, which prepared David for the board of review.

Thanks - to each of you. It wouldn't have happened without you.

The Church of the Good Sheperd

The Board was held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, an Episcopal Church, on Midway and Northhaven in Dallas. Pretty.

In all my years in Dallas, I'd never stepped foot on the property. A different place than where I was raised and matured. Each place with its own appeal.

With Sister in the Picture

The board of review was at 8pm and we took this shot in front of the house before we got in the car to drive over to Good Shepherd School where the board would occur.

David got a new Scout uniform for this event; he had outgrown the one he had. Handsome fellow.

The weather Thursday evening was beautiful. Spring and Fall here are so short. It was a clear, cool, refreshing Spring evening to be out.

I spoke with the board members and all said it went well. One member asked David if there was a merit badge the Scouts should create - standard question to get the candidate's response. David replied BSA should delop a Debate Merit Badge. The answer impressed the board member and back and forth ensued over the details of such a thing. (You may see a Debate merit badge someday.) :)

David had a lilt in his step on leaving the review and walking down the long hall toward me. Each hand gestured a thumb's up with the happy rhythm of his walk. It was a special moment for me, too. In one moment was the collective experience and hope of four men; my father, me, David, and someday maybe a grandson.

Dad, I wish you could have been here, you would have been proud of your grandson. If you can hear me now, lots of love and well wishes. He's doing okay. And Emily, you presence has been felt. You were always such a steady presence in David's life. I know you're proud. We miss you. May all the faithful departed, through the mercies of God, rest in peace, knowing their loved ones are still growing.

Mom, you have a handsome son - who is now the tallest in the family!

Love, Dad

Today 240 kids stepped out into a new world. One of those kids, David, is from the Babb household. "Today is the first day of the rest of your life." Good luck, David. Your best days are before you - and we'll all be there to support you. You're a great kid.

Love, Mom and Dad.
